Have you received a flyer in the mail? Seen our flyers in your gym or student hall? Developed a hankering for tulips and flavored water?
More importantly, did you ask yourself, "What is team handball, and how do I play?" And to that, I would normally suggest you check out a youtube link or two, watch some Champions League games on ehftv.com, and come by to practice and try it out.
In fact, go ahead, check out those links. Watch some video. If you like what you see, come to practice Sunday, meet the team, and learn the game in person.
However, we do want to grow the game, especially in the region between Baltimore, MD and Richmond, VA. One of our goals is to have an eight-team club collegiate league made of colleges and universities between Baltimore and Richmond. Doing so provides a significant growth in playing opportunities not only for students in the area, but for potential members of the US Men's National Team. In all of DCD's history, we've rarely had an opponent that wasn't four hours' drive away. To spread this sport in this area, the home of many former National Team members, will help make team handball more accessible.
In short, if you received a flyer, and you've checked out the videos, and you've come to practice, or you've come to our home games at Champions Fieldhouse, or College Nationals in Richmond, and you like what you see...
How about starting a club team at your school?
DCD will gladly help your school start a club team, including:
- Identifying coaches/club faculty members at your school
- Recruiting Tactics and Materials
- Documentation/Administrative Overview
- Equipment sourcing (Ball distributors, uniform distributors)
- Tournament Organization/Preparation
We have many people in the DCD organization who learned of/played handball at the University of North Carolina, one of the two flagship collegiate handball programs in the United States (along with the US Military Academy). Their experiences at UNC and beyond provide DCD with the knowledge of how to cultivate a college program effectively.
So, watch some video, come out to a practice. Watch us at Champions Fieldhouse March 24/25. Come to College Nationals in Richmond April 13-15. Help us make DC The Capital of Handball.
